Cooperating partners

The project cooperation in is based on the global network of national trade union centers affiliated to the ITUC-AP. The partner organisations include:

  • International Trade Union Cooperation – Asia Pacific.
  • Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies.
  • International Trade Union Confederation – Nepal Affiliate Council.
  • Pakistan Workers Federation.
  • Confederation of Trade Unions Myanmar.

Programme and focus areas

  • Decent work and social dialogue in labour the market.
  • Labour market laws and implementation.
  • Social protection of workers in formal and informal economy.
  • Legal protection of migrant workers.
  • Organising within the informal economy.
  • Labour market policies and inclusive trade policies.
  • Rights-based corporate social responsibility.

Programme strategies:

Both at national and the regional level, one or more of the following strategic intervention areas are included in the cooperation with partners:

1. Organisational capacity development.

2. Training and education of leadership, shop stewards and activists.

3. Lobby and advocacy – information and campaign activities.

4. Administrative and financial management systems.

5. Organising strategies and development of democratic trade union structures.

6. Formation of networks and alliances.

7. Social dialogue.

 

Education of trade union leadership, shop stewards and activists is an important element in the LO/FTF Council supported programmes. It enables trade unions to address key priorities, secure democracy and build capacity in practice. Education activities range from establishing educational systems to shop steward education and study circle activities.

 

Capacity to carry out advocacy is an important element in any trade union participation in social dialogue in Asia, and paves the way for the influence on decision-making processes, including negotiations of collective agreements, improvements of working conditions, vocational training and social security services.

 

Rights-based corporate social responsibility is promoted in a cooperation involving trade unions and employers organisations from the Philippines and Denmark. The Philippine partner organisations are the Federation of Free Workers and Employers Confederation of the Philippines and the Danish partner organisations are the Central Organisation of Industrial Employees in Denmark and DI (The Danish Confederation of Danish Industries). The project focus is on increasing awareness among labour market actors (state, employers and trade unions) of the benefits of sound CSR policies and strategies for a rights-based economic and social development.

 

Presence in Asia:

The LO/FTF Council currently has an office in the Philippines and provides technical assistance and thematic advisory services to our partners. Both international and local advisors extend their services in close collaboration with headquarters in Copenhagen.
